Cookie Policy
The cookies this website sets, what each one is for and how to take control of them in your browser.
In brief: this site uses a small number of cookies — the ones that make it work and the ones that remember your language and colour mode. Anything beyond that is optional and asks first.

What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise the same browser on a later request. Related technologies — local storage, session storage — do the same job and are covered by this page too.
What we use
| Category | What it does | Needs consent |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps a session valid, protects forms against cross-site request forgery, balances load and blocks abuse. The site cannot work without these. | No — they are required to deliver the service you asked for. |
| Preferences | Remembers the language you chose and whether you read in light or dark mode, so the site opens the way you left it. | No — set only in response to your own choice. |
| Analytics | Counts visits and shows which pages are read, so we can improve them. Used only where we have enabled an analytics provider. | Yes — optional, and only after you agree. |
| Marketing | Advertising and cross-site tracking cookies. | Not used on this website today. If that ever changes, we will update this page and ask before setting them. |
Third-party cookies
Where a page embeds content from another service — a video, a map, a hosted form — that service may set its own cookies once the content loads, under its own policy. We keep such embeds to a minimum.
How long they last
Session cookies disappear when you close the browser. Preference cookies last up to twelve months so you are not asked the same question on every visit. Analytics cookies, where enabled, follow the retention set by the provider — typically no more than fourteen months.
Managing cookies
- Every major browser can list, block and delete cookies in its privacy settings, per site or globally.
- Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the site — forms may stop submitting, and your language choice will not stick.
- Deleting cookies also deletes your preferences, so the site will open in its default language and colour mode again.
Changes
If we add a cookie or an analytics provider, we update this page and the date at the top before doing so.
